15-year-old in custody, 1 wanted after shots fired at off-duty officer in DeKalb County, police say

Here is what we know.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An investigation is underway after shots were fired at an off-duty officer in DeKalb County on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

DeKalb Police said a 15-year-old is in custody while a second suspect is still wanted.

Police said an officer  -- who was not in uniform and was in his personal vehicle -- noticed two people trying to open car doors as he was leaving a subdivision. As he tried to speak with them, the suspects allegedly fired several rounds at the officer before leaving the scene.

Fortunately, the officer was not hit by any of the gunfire. It's unclear at this time which agency the officer works for.

11Alive's SkyTracker flew over the scene, which showed several police cars on the side of Flat Shoals Road and several other DeKalb County Police patrol cars inside a neighborhood just off the road.

The 15-year-old taken into custody will face aggravated assault and other charges, authorities said.

Anyone with information on the second suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers or DeKalb Police at 770-724-7850.
