ATHENS, Ga. — Students graduating from the University of Georgia are set to hear a message from someone who knows all about accolades and success.
Allison Schmitt, a UGA graduate herself and 10-time Olympic medalist in swimming, will give the undergraduate commencement address inside Sanford Stadium on Friday night.
Schmitt is one of the most decorated American athletes of all time. She is a four-time Olympian, but her Olympic success most notably stemmed from 2012, when she won gold in the 200-meter freestyle, the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, and the 4x100-meter medley relay. She also won silver in the 400-meter freestyle and bronze in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, along with UGA teammate Missy Franklin.
Throughout her entire Olympic career, Schmitt is a four-time gold medalist, three-time silver medalist, and three-time bronze medalist.
Schmitt graduated from UGA in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology after returning to school her senior year following the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
