Appling and Ballard-Hudson hold joint school reunion

The two schools were Bibb County's only high schools for African Americans until schools in Macon were desegregated.

Lightfoot Enterprises will bring together Peter G. Appling and Ballard Hudson schools on Saturday night for a reunion party.

These two schools were Bibb County's only high schools for African Americans until Macon-Bibb schools were desegregated.

Both schools shut their doors in 1970.

Isaac Lightfoot says he wants to invite everyone from the decades of classes to celebrate their schools legacies together.

Lightfoot says they will be inducting athletes into their hall of fame and will have music and food for everyone to enjoy, but he's most excited to catch up with old friends.

"I'm excited just to see people of that era, just to see everybody," he said.

"Some of the people I've known since 1st grade went to school with those people and I have ad unique perspective on this because I went to both schools. I went to 8th and 9th at Ballard Hudson and 10-12th at Appling so I have a unique perspective on it and that's why I would like to see everyone together."

Over 500 people are set to attend.
