Sweet Eleanor's celebrates half birthday with cupcakes and community in downtown Macon

Owner Scott Mitchell says normally new restaurants don't make it this far, and he's grateful for all the community support they've gotten.

MACON, Ga. β€” A downtown Macon dessert shop just celebrated a pretty "sweet" milestone.

Sweet Eleanor's has been serving downtown Macon for 6 months now.

They celebrated their half birthday with a party yesterday, filled with food, fun, and cute branded cupcakes for everyone.

We covered Sweet Eleanor's when they first opened last November.

Back then, Owner Scott Mitchell β€” who also owns the Bohemian Den store downtown β€” explained he was naming the place after his grandmother Eleanor, to honor her.

He said he hoped the place would be an environment where customers can come and make their own memories, like the ones with his grandmother he so fondly looks back on.

Lots of customers have been in and out the doors of sweet Eleanor's since then.

Mitchell says normally new restaurants don't make it this far, and he's grateful for all the community support they've gotten.

"There's so many places that don't make it 6 months, and so I'm super honored that y'all have come out and bought our coffee and desserts and really just loved on us, that means so much to us," he said.

Grateful for an incredible 6 months of love, laughter, and memories at Sweet Eleanor's! πŸŽ‰ Huge thanks to everyone who...

It's easy to see why the place has such a big following - each person through the door was greeted with a smile and wave and lots of folks ran up to embrace Mitchell and his staff.

Several customers talked about their days or how they just got a new manicure, or how their partner was doing, all welcomed with a listening ear and genuine care.

If you want to check out Sweet Eleanor's for yourself, you can find them on Poplar Street downtown. They are open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 8 p.m.

You can check them out for First Friday on may 3, where they will have a "Stormy Sips" drink - a strawberry milkshake with a shot of espresso called the "perfect storm." They also have a Taylor Swift menu out now, for the release of the Tortured Poets Department album.

Additionally, a silent book club is hosted every third Thursday of the month if you want to enjoy a good read (and some sweet treats) with friends. You can bring your favorite book and read in a quiet, comfortable environment. To find out when silent book club events are, you can check out posts on their Facebook page here.
