Woman shot, found lying next to car in south Macon

Tynesha Hammonds, 20, was found near the corner of Bloomfield Way and Bloomfield Road Sunday night

MACON, Ga. — UPDATE: Monday, 5:30 a.m.

According to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a person shot just before 8 p.m. Sunday night.

When on scene, they found Hammonds lying on the ground beside a blue Nissan Altima with a gunshot wound. 

Previously, Bibb County Chief Coroner Leon Jones said Hammonds was sitting in the car.

The office says it was reported Hammonds was driving the Altima on Bloomfield Way when multiple shots were fired at the vehicle. 

The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived, and no one else was injured during the incident.

The office says the shooting is still under investigation.

A woman was found dead in her car Sunday night, according to Bibb County Chief Coroner Leon Jones.

Jones says Tynesha Hammonds, 20, was found shot, sitting in a car at the corner of Bloomfield Way and Bloomfield Road.

She was pronounced dead around 8:50 p.m.

Sergeant Clay Williams with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating the death as a homicide.

This will be the 40th homicide of the year for Bibb County, and the third one this week.

Coroner Lonnie Miley says there will be autopsy performed.
