What started as a patch of dirt in Peach County grew and grew... and grew into a massive $105 million industrial greenhouse.
The company behind it, Canada-based Pure Flavor, developed the site to grow vegetables.
Now, they're behind another developing project in Central Georgia.
A 60,000 square foot refrigeration facility is being built off of Highway 41, nestled within the far reaches of Warner Robins city limits and the Peach County line.
According to city and county joint development authority board member (and sitting city councilman) Tim Thomas, the facility will be used for produce grown at the greenhouse and from other farms across North America.
"It'll be the holding facility," said Thomas. "Produce will come in here clean and then we'll ship it out across the country."
According to executive director of the joint development authority B.J. Walker, the city and county dual organization used bond money to pay for the roughly $6 million project off of Highway 41. It's money Thomas says they'll make back from Pure Flavor.
"We're building the building, they're going to lease it," said Thomas. "The lease payment pays for the property and building and not just this property, the 5 acres, but the 432 acres."
The 432 acres he's referencing was bought by the joint development authority about a year ago with the hope it would attract industry. Pure Flavor was the first to take the bait but according to Thomas, more could be on the way.
"We've got probably 8 companies from across the world looking at this site right now," he said. "So we're looking at it like this is just the beginning."
Thomas wouldn't say what specific companies he was referring to but did say an announcement on another business coming to the industrial area could be coming "soon."
Walker says construction on the refrigeration site is expected to wrap up around the start of 2019.
He estimates it will bring between 100 and 150 jobs.
