Teen hit by car walking to school in Cobb County dies: Police

Back on March 20, Cobb County Police Department officers were called to a crash on Clay Road east of Austell Road where a pedestrian had been hit.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A 15-year-old Cobb County student has died after being hit by a car while walking to school nearly two weeks ago, according to the police department. 

Back on March 20, Cobb County Police Department officers were called to a crash on Clay Road east of Austell Road where a pedestrian had gotten hit. 

The Cobb department's S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit said that a 22-year-old from Marietta was driving east on Clay Road past Austell Road when it happened. 

As the driver reached what police called the "eastern side" of Clay Road, a 15-year-old walked directly into the car's path. 

The front of the car hit the left side of the 15-year-old, and he flew onto the westbound lane of the road. 

Emergency services responded and took the teen to  Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. 

Individuals with information relevant to the investigation are advised to contact the Cobb County Police Department STEP Unit at 770-499-3987. Police said no charges would be filed in the case. 

11Alive reached out to the Cobb County School District for information about the student at the time the crash happened. The response from a district spokesperson stated:

"This morning, a student was hit by a vehicle after stepping in the road on the way to school. We appreciate the quick response of Cobb County Police. Our thoughts are with the student."
