Crash shuts down I-475 north at Zebulon Road in Macon, drivers asked to avoid the area

The crash happened just after 12:15 p.m. on Friday.

MACON, Ga. — A crash on I-475 has two northbound lanes closed at Zebulon Road in Macon, according to Georgia 511.

The estimated end time is 3 p.m., but it was pushed back to 5 p.m. They have reopened one lane.

The photo from Georgia 511 shows some damage to the fencing on the bridge above.

A caller into the 13WMAZ newsroom said a truck with a boom crane hit the overpass.

Later, the sheriff's office said that the driver of the truck had died from his injuries. They identified the man as 39-year-old Stephen Perry Croft II.

"We have a foreman going out there now and we have notified our bridge group. We know the fence has been damaged at this time. As far as other damage we will wait on the bridge team assessment." according to Gina Snider with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

13WMAZ is working to confirm what happened in the crash. We've reached out to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Patrol and will provide additional updates when they are made available.
