First day early voting numbers breaks records in some Central Georgia counties

While some say they are always early voters, numbers show that in some places, the number people coming out to early vote has more than doubled since the last governor's race in 2014.

Election Day quickly approaches, and some people want to get a head start on casting their ballot.

"People don't realize how serious it is or how important it is for the people running to be there for the people," says John Henry from Macon.

People wanting to make sure their voice is heard say, "I'm tired of looking and seeing all this mess going on now," says Ocilla Sims.

Others are pushing their votes for their chosen candidate. "The person running for governor against the other guy, the Kemp guy," says Glenn Collins.

While some say they are always early voters, numbers show that in some places, the number people coming out to early vote has more than doubled since the last governor's race in 2014.

The Houston County Board of Elections says the number of first-time voters more than doubled, and in Houston, there were nearly seven times more. In Bibb County more than a thousand early voters yesterday, nearly twice as many as 2014.

And those are just the counties that were able to pull numbers back from 2014. Monroe County and Houston County Board of Elections say those are record breaking numbers for them. The lines continue to fill up, eager to cast their vote for this year's election.

"We're not going to get things changed unless we express our opinions and our opinions are expressed through our vote, so that's why I'm out and interested in doing it," says Charles Pertillo.

If you haven't gotten a chance to vote yet and you want to early vote, the polls are open until Friday November 2nd.
