Otis Ingram pays more than $600,000 in overdue taxes

A Monroe County real estate developer on Friday paid more than $600,000 in past due taxes on more than 100 properties.

Kim Watts, Monroe County Deputy Tax Commissioner, said Otis Ingram wrote a check for the full amount of $649,551.51. That happened four days before the county was scheduled to auction those properties.

13 WMAZ's Claire Davis was there when Ingram arrived at the Tax Commissioner's office, but he declined to speak with her.

Lori Andrews, Monroe County Tax Commissioner, said Ingram owns 103 properties in the county. She said Ingram had overdue taxes on those properties dating back to 2010. Andrews said she's tried working with Ingram in the past. "He has met with me on numerous occasions about this," said Andrews.

Andrews said Ingram told her he was struggling financially in his real estate business.

"He has told me that he's got hit really hard with real estate. When it bottomed out, he just hit rock bottom," said Andrews.

Andrews said her office was planning to auction off all of his properties this coming Tuesday if he hadn't paid.

She said Ingram's primary residence is worth more than $3 million.

According to Monroe County property taxes, that home has more than 12,900 square feet.
