Georgia in need of game wardens

They are known as law enforcement off the pavement.

As boating season rolls around, the state of Georgia is looking for help. The State Department of Natural Resources needs game wardens. They say 43 counties do not have game wardens assigned to them.

What exactly is a game warden? They are known as "law enforcement off the pavement."

State Game Warden Niki Spencer insures safety and cares for the environment out on the water.

"Our primary duties are to enforce the hunting laws, fishing laws, environmental laws, and also boating safety laws."

For ten years now, Niki has patrolled waters and says it's the job that keeps her coming back.

"What we do is unlike anything else that the state has to offer, in my opinion, as far as state law enforcement goes."

Niki says it's their job to keep people safe, and says more game wardens means more hands on deck.

"We've worked and done so many search and rescue operations over the years, and I think with more game wardens, it would definitely help with those type of situations."

She added, if you love the outdoors and have an interest in law enforcement, consider being a game warden.

The starting salary for this position is $41,000 and for requirements to apply, check their website at www.ganrle.org and click on the careers tab.
