Jones Co. woman raising money for inclusive playground

A Jones County woman is working to raise money for an inclusive playground with equipment that would allow special needs children, like her quadriplegic son, to interact and play safely with other kids.

Tammy Clark says when she saw her son Jayden cry at the sight of his brother playing baseball, she knew it was time to do something.

Clark took to Facebook seeking help to raise money for this project and with the help of a Jones County commissioner, she received a $50,000 grant leaving her with another $50,000 to raise.

"It would mean being able to stay close to home and to our doctors," says Clark. "The nearest inclusive playground is an hour and a half to two hours away."

Owner of Gray-8-Skate, Tammy Wells, say Clark's post on Facebook and felt compelled to help.

"If you don't have a child with special needs, you don't really put yourself in those shoes," says Wells. "I know there are tons of kids that will benefit from this, as well as the rest of the kids in the community."

Wells has planned a fundraiser at her rink for Thursday night. Both Wells and Clark encourage everyone to come out and make a donation to the inclusive playground project.

There will be skating, BBQ, and raffle prizes starting at 6 p.m. at Gray-8-Skate Thursday night. They are asking for a minimum $7 donation.
