JONES COUNTY, Ga. — A boil water advisory was issued for parts of Jones County on Thursday after a water main break, according to a press release from Jones County Water Superintendent Brandon Stark.
They say the break could disrupt the water supply or cause water pressure issues.
"The advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution — there is the potential health hazard [that] may exist due to microbial contamination in these areas without positive pressure," the release from the county said.
These are the areas that are facing a boil water advisory:
Residents on River North Circle
Wimbledon Lane, Wimbledon Court, Trophy Court, Eagle Drive, Eagle Crest, Nassau Court, Wedgewood Court, Masters Cove, Horseshoe Bend, River Hill Lane, River Hill Ridge, River Forrest, Plantation Drive, Southern Pines, Old Ridge Road, River POinte Drive, River Knoll and Shoreline Drive.
On River North Boulevard, residents in the 300 to 800 blocks are under an advisory, too.
The advisory will be in effect until the Jones County Water System has done appropriate testing, and they are confident that there is no longer any risk to the public, they said.
They say that the agency will notify the public "immediately" when the advisory is lifted.
After the advisory is lifted, they recommend flushing all faucets for a minimum of two minutes before using the water for drinking or food preparation.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, the Jones County Water Department says you can reach out to them at 478-743-3211.
What to do if you are under an advisory:
For those who are under the boil water advisory, the county said you need to heat water until you see bubbles quickly rising from the bottom. They say you then need to continue heating the water for 1 minute after the boiling begins.
Afterward, they say you should remove the water from the heat source and allow the water to cool down before using it.
According to the CDC, they recommend you use boiled tap water or bottled water for a number of purposes. If you using it for drinking, using it to brush your teeth, washing or preparing food or preparing baby formula.
They also say you should use boiled or bottled water for making ice or for drinking water for pets.
However, for washing clothes, dishes and other uses, you can use that with unboiled tap water if you do it properly, the county says.
