Former detention officer with Laurens County Sheriff's Office arrested, charged for violating oath of office

He was arrested on Monday.

LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. — A former detention officer with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office was arrested on Monday, according to a press release.

They say 48-year-old Joseph Poss was arrested at his home in Laurens County.

Poss was booked and charged with violation of oath of office and procuring prohibited items to an inmate.

13WMAZ reached out to the Laurens County Sheriff and he said Poss is a jailer and not a deputy. He said Poss has been with the department for less than a year.

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are still investigating.
