Man charged with setting Houston County church on fire

He is also charged with battery for an incident that happened days after the fire

PERRY, Ga. — A 37-year-old man is charged with arson after allegedly setting fire to a church in south Houston County.

The fire destroyed Friendship Baptist Church on Hodge Road in south Houston County on Dec. 22.

An investigation between Houston County Fire and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office led to warrants being secured for 37-year-old Issac Lester.

Evidence at the fire scene and interviews with witnesses help investigators file charges.

Lester was already in jail on an unrelated battery charge from a Dec. 26 incident. He is still in custody without bond.

Anyone with additional information can call Chief Inv. William Smith at 478-542-2040.
