New traffic shift in place on Georgia 247 for bridge repairs

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be replacing eight bridges between Hawkinsville Road and Houston Avenue.

MACON, Ga. — Parts of Highway 247 in Macon look a lot different Wednesday morning, after Georgia Department of Transportation crews shifted traffic to make way for bridge repairs.

The department will be replacing eight bridges between Hawkinsville Road and Houston Avenue over the next couple of years.

For the first part of the project, they've shifted all traffic onto what used to be the northbound lanes of Georgia 247 this week.

This traffic shift will stay in place until the summer of 2021.

After then, all traffic will shift to the southbound lanes with their new bridges.

The entire project is expected to be done by spring 2022.

Drivers are asked to slow down and stay alert while driving through the area.
