Warner Robins looks to purchase $420,000 in land for Commercial Circle development

They want to purchase three plots on Market Street and one plot on Watson Boulevard.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The City of Warner Robins may spend more than $400,000 to buy some land in Commercial Circle. It will go towards creating their ideal downtown with retail, living and green space.

At the upcoming Tuesday night council meeting, the council will discuss whether to enter a purchase and sale agreement for three parcels on Market Street and one on Watson Boulevard.

On Monday, the ladies from the Warner Robins chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc were in Commercial Circle.

"We're preparing to get out the vote in the City of Warner Robins," Tori Jones said.

They also spent the day as a time to educate young people about John Lewis, admire his mural, and enjoy the future downtown space.

"We're excited about what the Mayor is doing and for the social and economic impact it will have on our community," Jones said.

As an educator with Houston County, Valerie Drummond says the development will be great for her students.

"You've got to have something to occupy their time and what the mayor is trying to do is give them a safe space," Drummond said.

She shared that the Mayor also held a meeting that her students got to attend to learn about future internship opportunities in that area of town.

Business owner Alvin Washington is ready for the space to liven up.

"This has been a dead zone for quite some time since I've been here," Washington said.

He owns Headz Up Barbershop and Hookah Headz Lounge.

"I revamped the place and I really made it home," he said.

He's happy the city is making progress toward a downtown, as long as it doesn't include taking out his business.

"I've been here too long, and it wasn't my goal to ever move," he said.

Council will vote on whether to buy this land Tuesday night, the meeting begins after pre-council which starts at 4:30 p.m. at city hall.
