Washington County Deputies lead on high-speed chase ends in Baldwin County

A deputy tried to stop the car but the driver sped away at 100 mph, according to the release.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man is in custody after leading Washington County deputies on a high-speed chase that ended in Baldwin County, according to a press release from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page.

On Friday at 2:36 p.m. a Washington County deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 540 and Lamars Creek Road when he clocked a car doing 63 mph in a 45 mph construction zone. 

The deputy tried to stop the car but the driver sped away at 100 mph, according to the release. 

During the chase, the passenger threw several items out the window. They were found and identified as illegal narcotics.

Washington County 911 contacted the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and deputies were able to set up spike strips. 

The fleeing car hit the spike strips in Baldwin County and deputies took those in the car into custody.

The driver, 29-year-old Malachi Wint of Gaston, South Carolina, was also wanted in North Carolina for aggravated assault. The car he was driving had been stolen in South Carolina. 

Wint and 25-year-old Sharif Dennis of Charlotte, North Carolina face felony charges locally.
