Cronic will become the next offensive coordinator at Navy, Mercer's athletic department announced Tuesday night.

MACON, Ga. — The most successful coach in the history of the Mercer Football program is moving on.

On Tuesday night, the Mercer athletics department announced that Drew Cronic has resigned his position as football head coach to become the next offensive coordinator of the Navy Midshipmen.

Cronic was hired in December 2019 and led the Bears to 28 victories across his four seasons, as well as their first-ever FCS playoff berth in 2023.

"Coach Cronic has made great contributions to the Mercer football program, as well as to Mercer University, over the last four seasons," Athletic Director Jim Cole said in a release. "We want to thank him for not only the impact that he has had on Mercer, but the entire Middle Georgia community. We wish him and his family the very best."

Mercer will immediately begin a national search for its next head coach.
