Zoo Atlanta reveals name of its baby rhino

ATLANTA — Editor's note: The video in this story is from a previous 11Alive report.

The baby rhino at Zoo Atlanta officially has a name!

Back in March, zoo officials asked the public for help naming the southern white rhino during its "Rhino Naming Madness."

On Thursday, Zoo Atlanta revealed the 3-month-old calf's name as Zuri, a name of Swahili origin that can mean "beautiful."

The name Zuri was one of more than 4,000 online submissions. Zoo Atlanta's naming committee then selected seven names from the pool of submissions to form the Sweet Sixteen. From there, the committee said Zuri came out on top after four rounds of public voting following the launch of Zoo Atlanta's Sweet Sixteen bracket.

Zuri was born at Zoo Atlanta on Christmas Eve. She now weighs over 330 pounds and has been making more frequent appearances alongside her mother, Kiazi, in the Zoo’s Delta Air Lines Rhino Habitat, zoo officials said.

She hasn't met her dad, Mumbles, yet, who Zoo Atlanta said is a first-time father, but hopefully, that's in the near future!

In the meantime, check out the adorable video of Zuri playing around in her habitat with her mom below:
