Sheriff: Milledgeville woman shot three times by estranged boyfriend

The woman drove herself to a local hospital before being airlifted to a different hospital.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A woman has been airlifted after being shot coming out of her apartment in Milledgeville, according to Baldwin County Sheriff Bill Massee.

Massee said a woman was shot by her estranged boyfriend who was waiting for her to come out of her apartment. 

She was shot three times before driving herself to a local hospital where she was airlifted to another location.

According to a release from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, the victim was identified as 22-year-old Zaelon Jones.

A witness at the residence was able to escape the apartment during the gunfire and call 911, according to the release.

22-year-old Josquarn De’angelo Lewis was arrested without incident on Highway 29. The weapon allegedly used in the shooting was also recovered.

Lewis is charged with Aggravated Stalking, two counts of Aggravated Assault and Home Invasion in the First Degree. He is being held in the Baldwin County Jail without bond.

The woman’s condition is unknown. GBI is currently assisting with the investigation and processing the crime scene.
