Georgia Power hosts event for West Laurens High School teachers

The program provided local high school teachers, coaches and counselors with information on careers in energy, nuclear energy, and innovation.

Georgia Power flipped a switch Tuesday on an event designed to inform and empower school leaders.

The event, called "Powering Your Learning," took place at West Laurens High School.

The program provided local high school teachers, coaches and counselors with information on careers in energy, nuclear energy, and innovation.

Attendees were also able to get hands on experience with the curriculum as well. Georgia Power started the program in 2011.

Bill Glisson says there are a lot of opportunities available within Georgia Power.

"Some of the things that are available inside Georgia Power Company are in the technical area such as linemen, working at our power plant's instrumentation and control, and then, you also have the construction area such as welding, carpentry, electricians and plumbers," Glisson said.

The company says they're committed to bringing Learning Power lessons to every school system in Georgia.
