My Teacher is Tops: Mrs. Kimberly Hanner at Jones County High School

Mrs. Kimberly Hanner has been teaching for 30 years and she says Jones County High School's not getting rid of her yet.

JONES COUNTY, Ga. — One Jones County High School teacher has students saying yay for ELA!

She teaches English and Language Arts and says her job is the love of her life.

The look of surprise filled Mrs. Kimberly Hanner's face when she was awarded top teacher.

Hanner has been teaching for 30 years and she says they're not getting rid of her yet.

Turner Watson is a previous student of Mrs. Hanner's and he wrote to our station to nominate her:

"I would like to nominate Mrs. Hanner as an ELA teacher at Jones County High School," Watson said. "Mrs. Hanner has everything you look for in a teacher. She just has such a passion for helping kids succeed and is so dedicated to helping all her students succeed. You can ask any of her former or current students about how big of an impact she has made in their lives. Her commitment to helping her students go beyond the classroom. She's always inspiring and motivating all of her kids to reach their full potential. She always knows how to create the best learning environment. Mrs. Hanner has truly made an impact on mine and many other kids' lives and without a doubt, she deserves to be My Teacher is Tops!"

Hanner says she looks forward to coming to work every day and teaching her kids about critical reading, writing, and communication skills.

"It's such a blessing," Hanner said. "Teaching is not an easy job, but it's very rewarding and things like this make such a big difference. ELA gives me the opportunity to bring in a lot of other subjects and topics, it's one of those things or one of those subjects that kind of unites every other subject together."

Hanner has no current plans to retire and says she wouldn't have chosen another career. She mentioned how thankful she is to have the high school's support and to be of support to her students.

"This is like family here and everybody makes such a difference for each other," Hanner said. "It kind of makes the world around us a little bit smaller because we can make connections through ELA."

Congratulations Mrs. Hanner!
