MACON, Ga. — New Fellowship Baptist Church in Macon hosted an event Sunday night to honor the families of two officers that died in the line of duty in Americus.
Minquel Lembrick shot Officers Nicholas Smarr and Jody Smith as they were responding to a domestic dispute call at a home on Lee Street.
The next day Lembrick took his own life.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis presented two scholarships to family members of those officers.
The event also included a singing contest and a chance to win a free car and get some bills paid
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
