Macon locals excited over HBO filming downtown

"I mean, we are a friendly town, and so when we show outsiders how friendly we are, how welcoming we are, they're going to come back."

The HBO series based off of the Watchmen comics finally began filming their pilot episode Wednesday in downtown Macon.

Film crews have transformed 2nd Street, and store fronts have drastically changed into the town of "Greenwood." The new scenery had people talking.

"You don't really see too much stuff like that come through Macon, so it's good for us to finally get a chance to be on the map, and get seen for something," said Macon local Tahjae Morant.

Another local, David Pitts, said, "This is a great thing that's happening in Macon. Bringing in films and all that is very good for the community."

Security surrounded the set making it hard to get a closer. Cameras were not allowed to get too close.

"I was trying to put it on the Snapchat to show everybody what's going on downtown, but they told me no, no photography, no video. So I guess they got something big going on over there," said Monrant.

Locals said they hope the pilot is successful, so camera crews come back to Macon.

"I mean, we are a friendly town, and so when we show outsiders how friendly we are, how welcoming we are, they're going to come back," said Scott Mitchell.
