Bibb deputy arrested, fired in real-estate case

Deputy Albert Murray allegedly filed a legal claim on a home that he doesn't own, changed the locks and tried to sell it.

A Bibb County sheriff's deputy was fired Wednesday after being accused of taking part in real-estate scams.

Sheriff David Davis said on April 8, Deputy Albert Murray filed a legal claim on a home that he doesn't own, changed the locks and tried to sell it.

The home is located at 3553 Academy Drive in Lizella.

Investigators found evidence that Murray and his partners were involved in other real-estate frauds as well, Davis said.

Murray and the three -- Lemroyal James, Clifford Delaney Greene, and Dimitrious Antoine Brown -- were arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Bibb County jail.

Davis says he fired Murray as soon as the arrest warrant was issued.

He's now in the Bibb County jail, charged with making false statements and writings and violating his oath as a law officer.

James, Greene, Brown are charged with making false statements.

Davis says they're investigating whether Murray and his partners are involved in other fraud cases and they may face additional charges.

"This is a scheme that is used in a lot of these sovereign citizen movement groups," said Davis who accused the four of being part of the group.

Murray is the second Bibb County deputy arrested this week.

On Tuesday, Deputy Andre Pope was arrested for allegedly smuggling phones to inmates in the county jail

Davis says though the arrest affects his department's image, he must hold his employees accountable.

"If I find anybody who is not upholding that ideal, they're going to be gone from this office," said Davis.

The sheriff's office says anyone who's worked with the four men on a real estate deal should contact Sgt. Jason Batchelor at (478) 803-2555.
