Bibb Sheriff's Office looking for 19-year-old in connection to North Macon shooting death

The shooting death of Brian Matthew Brown left his North Macon community in shock. Now, they're looking for another suspect.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is looking for another suspect in the shooting death of 50-year-old Brian Matthew Brown outside his home on Lokchapee Landing.

The sheriff's office says they are looking for 19-year-old Brian Latrell Colbert Jr.

The shooting in the early hours of Nov. 26, 2024 shook the north Macon subdivision where Brown lived.

Brown walked outside and shortly after gunshots rang out. His wife, Sylvia Rose-Brown, says he was checking an alarm outside near his truck.

When authorities arrived, he was found with a single gunshot wound, and Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

Colbert is known to frequent the Pleasant Hill and Houston Avenue areas of Macon, the sheriff's office says. If you have any information about where Colbert is, you can contact the sheriff's office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.

Back in January, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office arrested a teenager in Brown's death. That teen was arrested and taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center. The sheriff's office says he is also facing three additional counts of aggravated assault in a shooting that took place on Jan. 11 in the 3800 block of Tela Place.

'It just broke our hearts'

Days after Brown's killing, members of the north Macon neighborhood where brown lived gathered for a vigil.

Several neighbors spoke about how grateful they were to have him as a neighbor. Susan Jolley is the president of the housing board. She said when everyone heard the news, they simply couldn't believe they'd lost him.

"It was crushing. I mean we all stood out here for 45 minutes not knowing who it was and when we found out, it just broke our hearts," Jolley said.

His mom, Pam Brown, was grateful he was loved.

"I just want to thank all y'all for loving him because he loved you so," Pam said.

His parents said he wanted to spread his kindness and knowledge to help people. His mother, Pam Brown, says she misses that about him.

"In the beginning, I thought I was teaching him, but it turns out he was teaching me how to be a better person," Pam said.

Pam asked her son why he wanted to live in a condo and not build his own home. He was known for his construction work and knowledge about upkeeping houses.

"He said well mama there's so many older people that live out here and I think I need to be here to help them," Pam said.
