Missing Warner Robins woman found dead in Peach County

The family last saw Sallie Brinkley at their weekly family dinner

PEACH COUNTY, Ga. — A Central Georgia family is grieving after an elderly woman missing for two days was found dead.

Georgia State Patrol says her car ran into a ditch on Russell Parkway and Housers Mill Road.

The search for 86-year-old Sallie Brinkley started Monday morning at her home in Warner Robins and ended in a ravine in Peach County.

Brinkley's granddaughter, Christina Rosen, says on Sunday, they had dinner as a family, like they do every week after church.

Brinkley called to let them know she made it home safely, and that was the last time they heard from her.

Monday morning, friends and workmen noticed she wasn't coming outside like she usually does or answering her phone.

Rosen says Brinkley's son-in-law stopped by her house to check and saw both her purse and car were gone.

Soon after that, the family called police and started calling the 13WMAZ newsroom for help finding her.

Now, they believe the 86-year-old left the house to pick up her prescriptions and got lost and confused.

The Warner Robins Police Department asked Houston, Peach, and Bibb counties to be on the lookout.

At 8:25 Tuesday morning, Georgia State Patrol received a call that about a car at the bottom of a gully at Russell Parkway and Housers Mill road .

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks identified the driver as Brinkley.

He says the accident was called in to police by people working nearby who saw the vehicle.

He says it's possible the car crashed on Sunday, but no one saw it until Tuesday.

Georgia State Patrol says the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
