New commander takes over Air Force Reserve Command at Robins AFB

A ceremony was held on Thursday to recognize the new commander.

A new commander took over the Air Force Reserve Command on Thursday.

A ceremony was held at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins to recognize Lt. General Richard Scobee.

Scobee says the first change you'll see from him is to see more airmen and women put into their units focusing less on the administration and more on skills training to be combat-ready.

His other top goals include keeping the reserve's strategic depth and making sure the right leadership is in place.

"And the last thing is making sure our organization is doing what it needs to meet those needs, we need to be fiscally responsible to our taxpayers," he said.

"And we need to be responsible to our airmen that they are getting the support that they need to be successful, and that's what you'll be getting out of me."

Scobee has family ties to a tragic moment in aerospace history.

His, father, Lt. Col. Francis Scobee was an astronaut and commander of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

He and the rest of the crew died when Challenger exploded on takeoff in 1986.

Francis Scobee was inducted into the astronaut hall of fame, and given the congressional space medal of honor.
