MACON, Ga. — Retired Bibb County Cpt. Chris Patterson announced his bid for the Bibb County Sheriff's Office this Tuesday, according to a press release from the campaign.
Patterson served with the sheriff's office 32 years, and he retired in December 2023, the release said. They say Patterson retired so that he could run for sheriff.
In the release, they emphasize Patterson's desire to collaborate with Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller, and the county commission to bolster security in the community.
"With his many years of experience and insight into the department, he will provide several platforms that will begin to make Macon-Bibb a better place to live, work and play," the release said.
Patterson is running as a Democrat.
"He has an 'I hear you' approach and wants the public to know that he is available to hear your thoughts and concerns," the release said. "Plan to see him in your community in the near future."
He invites community members to support his efforts to "Make Macon Great Again."
Patterson joins a crowded field of challengers to incumbent Sheriff David Davis.
Patterson is not the Mjr. Chris Patterson who is in charge of the jail, who began his role on the same day as four inmates escaped from the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
