Warner Robins police share information in Sunday night shooting

Police still don't know why 29-year-old Joseph Schaarschmidt shot his 30-year-old brother in at their apartment.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Warner Robins man is dead and investigators charged his younger brother with killing him in their apartment.

Police say around 7 p.m. Sunday, 29-year-old Joseph Schaarschmidt shot his 30-year-old brother Augustus at Skylar Pointe apartments.

People at the complex say it is very quiet and most people keep to themselves. One neighbor shared that occasionally they hear gunshots, adding that there has been a domestic dispute at the apartments before.

They said when they heard a woman screaming, they didn't expect the altercation to be between two brothers.

Police were at apartment C8 gathering evidence, from Sunday evening until about 11:00 a.m. Monday morning.

"It was evident that there was a domestic dispute that occurred between the two brothers," Detective Brandon Underwood said.

At this time, Underwood says police still don't know what led to the shooting.

Liquor bottles were found scattered on the ground around the apartment.

"There's nothing right now to show me that they were under the influence of alcohol," Underwood said.

Neighbors say they heard no partying.

Police say there was another person at the apartment, but they don't believe that person was involved in the argument.

Now, investigators are just sharing the basics.

"Joseph has been arrested and is charged with murder. Augustus has passed and that's about where we are with the investigation," Underwood said.

Underwood said he's not aware of either brother having a criminal history.
