Driver who WRPD says hit man, kept driving back in March turns self in, police say

They found a man lying on Watson Boulevard seriously injured. Almost a month later, the man they say hit him was arrested.

MACON, Ga. — The Warner Robins Police Department says a driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian back in March and drove away turned himself in, according to a press release from the police department.

Dustin Nelson turned himself in at the Warner Robins Police Department at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, almost a month after they say Nelson hit a man in the 4000 block of Watson Boulevard. It happened just before 11 p.m. on March, the press release said.

He is charged with felony hit and run and failure to report an accident with injury.

The department received a call notifying them of a person lying in the roadway after he was hit by a vehicle.

The pedestrian Timothy Thomas was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the police department said, but he has since improved to stable condition.

Earlier this month, Warner Robins police found the vehicle in Macon and determined Nelson was the one allegedly behind the wheel when it hit Thomas, the press release said.

The Warner Robins Police Department Traffic Unit is still investigating. They ask if you have any information to call 478-551-4578 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers 1-877-68CRIME.
