MACON, Ga. — A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole in Houston County on Thursday after pleading guilty to aggravated child molestation, according to the Houston County District Attorney's Office.
They say Matthew Ralph Delp pleaded guilty to acts of sexual abuse against a 14-year-old child back in November 2021. The case included DNA evidence and, after being analyzed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, it was confirmed to be Delp's DNA.
The DNA makes the prosecution of this case, according to prosecutor Justin Duane, unique.
"This is a rare case where we had DNA evidence — we normally don't have DNA in these types of cases," Duane said in the press release. "I'm glad Mr. Delp took responsibility for his disgusting actions and I'm grateful that the child can close this chapter of her life."
Before this case, Delp had no previous criminal history.
"Our children are our future, we must protect them and be their voice in the court of law," District Attorney William Kendal said in the press release. "Our world can be dark at times, and it is up to our community, law enforcement and prosecutors to bring back a bit of light."
Kendall said that they hope this gives closure to the victims.
"We cannot undo the heinous acts that have been done, but we hope this helps provide some closure and comfort to our victim and the family," Kendall said.
