Daughter of Newnan man shot and killed raising funds for his funeral

Willie Hunter, 60, was identified Friday as the victim in a shooting that also left a dog dead.

NEWNAN, Ga. — The child of a Newnan man shot and killed on Friday is looking for support from the community in laying him to rest.

Sixty-year-old Willie Hunter died in a shooting along with his dog, according to his family. A woman was also hurt in the shooting but survived.

The family says Willie's nickname was "Rock" because he used to spend money like John D. Rockefeller, but his sister Betsy Hunter says he was also as solid as a rock.

"He loved to work. And if he could do something for you, he would do it," Hunter said, "And he always calls me 'Betsy Mae.'"

Without their "Rock," Chalisa says the family's foundation is crumbling beneath them.

"We ain't holding.," Chalisa said, "We're just dealing at this point."

Chalisa says her dad loved dogs. It's one of the memories she holds onto adding that the deceased dog's name was Max.

"I let him watch my little dog," Chalisa said, smiling at the memory. "And he almost let my dog run away from him one time."

Police have not explained the full circumstances of what happened, but said Friday that a suspect was in custody. Chalisa's post said her father was shot five times in the chest, a detail not yet confirmed by police.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m. near Salbide Avenue and Thompson Avenue, in Newnan.

"I had just talked to him, maybe, three or four days before this happened," Betsy said.

Newnan Police confirmed Saturday that 52-year-old Fredrick Lee Tucker is charged with felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of home invasion, and one count of aggravated animal cruelty.

Newnan Police said this is their second homicide investigation of the year.

Anyone who would like to contribute to Hunter's memorial funds can do so here.
