Frankly Speaking: Big bucks for big-time coaches

The Southeastern Conference says It Just Means More and they're willing to back that up by paying top dollar to football coaches.

This is a column of opinion and analysis by 13WMAZ’s veteran news and sports anchor, Frank Malloy.

10-and-a-half -- that's the line out of Las Vegas on how many games the Georgia Bulldogs will win this season.

Same number as Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma.

If that comes true, those four theoretically would battle it out in the College Football Semifinals on December 29.

Don't go making any reservations just yet -- a season's worth of games still to be played.

And remember, this time last year, Georgia was not in any National Title talk.

Credit Kirby Smart with engineering a superb season and raising expectations through the roof.

Speaking of raises, Smart scored well in that category, too -- his new deal, announced earlier this month will pay him in the neighborhood of $49 million over the next seven years.

That puts him in the high-end salary bracket along with fellow SEC Coaches Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, and Gus Malzahn.

Not only does it Just Mean More in the SEC, they also just pay more.

And fans consider it money well spent as long as their schools just win more.

It's simple -- whether it's football or any business, win and you're worth it, lose and they'll find somebody else, quickly.
