Trash truck crash leaves one dead in Houston County, fire chief says

The crash happened in the 2300 block of Highway 341, causing authorities to close lanes and redirect traffic.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A crash between a sedan and a Waste Management trash truck left one dead, according to Houston County Fire Chief Christopher Stoner.

It happened on Friday in the 2300 block of Highway 341 in Houston County shortly after noon.

The driver of the sedan, 76-year-old Walter Cornelius Wells from Pineview, was killed in the crash, according to Coroner James Williams.

According to the coroner, the sedan collided with the trash truck.

Law enforcement was redirecting traffic off the side of the highway where the crash happened. They turned the four-way road down to a two-way road.

Authorities working the scene took photos and walked around the vehicles.

We reached out to the Houston County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the crash, and they said they were unable to provide any more details.

This is a developing story. We will update this story when more information becomes available.

Earlier on Friday, another trash truck caught on fire in Houston County, causing damage to the outside of a home in the Lovorn Circle and Oaks Drive area of Warner Robins

However, based on videos and photos sent into the 13WMAZ Newsroom, it appears the truck is owned by a different company than the one involved in the crash on Highway 341.
