Motorcyclist dead in Byron after slamming into turning U-Haul truck, coroner says

It happened on Highway 49 near the intersection of Meadows Walk Drive.

MACON, Ga. — A motorcyclist is dead in Byron after crashing into a turning U-Haul box truck Thursday afternoon, according to Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks.

He says it happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Highway 49 near the intersection of Meadows Walk Drive.

Zachary Reed Czarneski, 37, of Byron was heading north on his motorcycle when a U-Haul box truck pulling a trailer pulled in front of him, Rooks said.

The U-Haul was making a left turn into Meadows Walk Drive, Rooks said, causing Czarnecki to slam into the trailer.

Rooks pronounced him dead at around 4 p.m., and his next of kin has been notified.

When the Byron Police Department posted about it on Facebook four hours ago, they said the highway was partially closed, and encouraged drivers to avoid the area.
