Make Music Day 2019 kicks off with Downtown Macon Boogie

Downtown Macon was alive with the sound of music for International Make Music Day

MACON, Ga. — Friday was International Make Music Day, and 1,000 cities all over the world including Macon celebrating the day. Downtown Macon kicked off Make Music Day with a Downtown Boogie celebration in Third Street Park.

The festivities began with performances by the Band of Angels choir and Gloria Stanley, who organized the event. Stanley was able to put Make Music Day together with the help of a $2,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.

Stanley encourages people to come out to perform or make some music wherever you are.

The Downtown Macon Boogie featured live performances, a DJ, and a Macon Mayhem inflatable.

Make Music Day started 36 years ago in France as a celebration of music. Now, the day is celebrated annually in over 120 countries.

The festivities went on until 7 p.m.

The day ended with an Open Mic Night at the Ampersand Guild.
