MACON, Ga. — This Friday, over 1,000 cities around the world including Macon will be celebrating Make Music Day. The worldwide celebration began in France 36 years ago, and now has participants from more than 120 countries.
The international event is all about self-expression through music, no matter how talented you are. For Macon, the celebration represents the importance of music as well as the city's progress and growth.
Macon's Make Music Day was put together thanks to Gloria Stanley, who won a $2,000 Downtown Community Challenge Grant to organize the event.
"All I know is I wanted to do it bigger and better this year," says Stanley. "And with the money, that's exactly what I think has been accomplished because we got the open to space to allow anyone in the city of Macon, the state of Georgia to come in and just jam."
Throughout downtown Macon, there will be pop-up performances by professional artists and anyone else who wants to perform and participate.
Even if you don't come out for the festivities, Stanley still wants people to make some music wherever they feel comfortable.
"It can be done anywhere across the city of Macon, all you gotta do is just play your instrument," says Stanley. "Come on out and enjoy the festivities."
Make Music Day will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. throughout downtown Macon.
