'I just saw potential there': UPS bringing nearly 200 jobs to Monroe County

The Monroe County Development Authority finalized a deal with UPS to build a new facility over nine acres in Forsyth.

FORSYTH, Ga. — Joyce White is the president of the Monroe County Development Authority and believes Indian Spring Business Park markets itself.

“I just saw potential there," White said.

After 15 months, the Monroe County Development Authority closed a deal with UPS to buy nine acres of land in the business park off Indian Springs Drive.

"Location is always key you need to be able to get to the expressway very quickly because they’re distributing, delivering packages, right? So, time is of the essence for a company like UPS and this is easy access onto I-75," White said.

From the beginning, White says UPS was invested in this community.

"Our initial discussion they talked about their interest in participating in the community. They have a lot of philanthropic activity which is important to a community as well," White said.

The facility will bring in 60 full-time positions and 127 part-time positions to people in Monroe County. The city of Forsyth's mayor Eric Wilson is happy to know opportunity is coming for Forsythians.

"Well, we’re just very excited to welcome the new jobs, the new opportunities for our citizens. It’s always exciting to get new economic development in the community, especially quality economic development. Quality jobs for our citizens," Wilson said.

Wilson believes this facility will help keep working people local.

"Many of whom drive out of town for work, maybe they’ll have opportunities to be able to stay here and work and those that are unemployed or underemployed might have some opportunity to work locally as well we would hope," Wilson said.

UPS told us this central facility will make their services more efficient and they are glad to support the growth of small businesses and local communities.
