Dodge County teen indicted on charges related to deadly fight

Documents allege Thomas Joiner slammed another man to the ground causing a fatal brain injury

EASTMAN, Ga. — A Dodge County teen has been indicted on manslaughter charges after an 18-year-old died following a fight last August.

According to a grand jury indictment returned Wednesday from Dodge County Superior Court, the case against Thomas Stuart Joiner III will continue.

Joiner is accused of meeting up with 18-year-old Dakota Rowland back on July 25, 2018, so the two could fight each other.

In 2018, GBI Special Agent Scott Whitley said Joiner caused Rowland to hit the ground during the fight and receive a brain injury that ultimately killed him on August 17.

Joiner is formally charged with voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and battery.

His bond on those charges was set at $10,000 in August 2018.

The indictment is one of several indictments now being released after the Dodge County courthouse was closed for months to remove pigeons and their droppings, which prevented grand jury proceedings from taking place.
