Law enforcement investigating after inmate dies in Macon State Prison

Macon County Deputy Coroner Eddie Hosley says it happened around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday morning.

MACON, Ga. — Law enforcement is investigating after the death of an inmate at Macon State Prison.

According to Macon County Deputy Coroner Eddie Hosley, 40-year-old Taurean Hardy died at the prison over the weekend.

The coroner’s office was called around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday morning.

According to a statement from the Georgia Department of Corrections, Hardy was killed during a  fight with his cellmate, Joshua Marchman.

They say Marchman was serving a life sentence without the possibility for parole. He was convicted of murder in Cobb County.

Hardy was serving a 15-year sentence for Armed Robbery out of Glynn County. The latest he could have been released was March 2029, according to the statement.

GBI Crime Lab is now conducting an autopsy to determine Hardy's cause of death.

His death is still under investigation by the Georgia Department of Correction's Office of Professional Standards. Because of the on-going investigation, they say no additional information is available.
