After fatal shooting Sunday night, neighbors say Cedar Avenue is fairly quiet

Gregory Thomas, 35, was shot while sitting on the porch at the duplex.

MACON, Ga. — Bibb County deputies are investigating a shooting on Cedar Avenue in Macon.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to the scene. They found a man shot while sitting on the porch of a duplex.

They say 35-year-old Gregory Thomas was found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

When 13WMAZ went to the scene Monday morning, investigators were speaking with people around the duplex, and walking inside and around the building.

We did ask to interview the family but they were not ready to speak with us. We spoke with neighbors in the area who declined to go on camera but told us friends come to the duplex to hang out. They told us there are rarely any issues in the Cedar Avenue area and it's quiet.

Audrey Harden is one of Thomas' first cousins and told us that Thomas lived with her. She says he was a kind and loving person.

Friends who knew Thomas told us he was a "chill guy" and didn't bother anyone. He lived across the parking lot of the duplex and came over to hang out when he was shot.

Harden says what happened to her cousin is upsetting and hopes investigators find the person responsible for his death.

We wanted to know how often shootings have occurred in the area and found there was at least one shooting in the years 2016, 2018 and 2022.

This is the eighth fatal shooting in Macon-Bibb County in the last week and a half.

We did reach out to Bibb County Sheriff's for more details. They told us the incident is still under investigation.
