Summer-Like Pattern Continues across Central Georgia

Scattered showers & storms possible this afternoon.

MACON, Ga. — Dense Fog Advisory until 10 A.M.

A dense fog advisory is in effect until 10 A.M. Yesterday's rain, combined with warm air from the ground, is the reason. Smoke from a house fire in downtown Macon has resulted in super fog along Spring Street, Riverside Drive, & Walnut Street. Spots downtown could see fog linger until 11 A.M. Drive slower on the wet roadways and stay alert.

Showers & Storms to start the Week:

Isolated showers, downpours, and some storms are possible throughout the day on Sunday. Severe weather is not likely, but an occasional lightning strike will be. The summer-like pattern continues, with hit-or-miss downpours possible overnight into Monday. A cluster of storms, known as a Mesoscale Convective System, can't be ruled out tomorrow morning, but more likely tomorrow night. Mostly sunny skies will return on Tuesday & Wednesday.

Mesoscale Convective Systems:

Transitioning from spring to summer, Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCSs) are more likely. MCSs are large clusters of storms. They are hard to forecast during the summer and are more widespread, unlike the typical hit-or-miss or pattern. The main threat with MCSs is strong wind gusts at the leading edge of the complexes.

Hovering 90 degrees Mid-Week:

Tuesday & Wednesday will include plenty of sunshine. Highs Tuesday will be in the upper 80s, and highs Wednesday will be closer to 90 degrees. Macon has yet to record a value at 90 degrees this year. However, many spots across central Georgia have warmed above 90 degrees. The record this Wednesday was set back in 1902, of 93 degrees.

Stronger Storms Likely to End the Work Week:

A cold front will move southward into central Georgia Thursday and Friday. With a more organized line of storms, MCSs will be more likely. Gusty winds up to 60 MPH and heavy downpours are expected.
