FORSYTH, Ga. — People in Forsyth are getting ready to support a big name in their community. Malik Herring will have a chance to win his second Super Bowl ring.

His high school football coach, Brian Nelson, called Herring a hometown hero.

"He has not forgotten where he’s come from, sort to speak. And I know that’s kinda cliché-ish, you know, but like this place means a lot to him," Nelson said.

Nelson coached Herring all four years of high school. He said Herring serves as a role model for his athletes.

"It allows them to see the history and the tradition and once a dawg always a dawg all that kind of stuff that...we talk about like that’s living proof right there," Nelson said.

This will be Herring’s second trip to the Super Bowl. When he came home last year, Herring was greeted with community support and the key to the city.

Takeimia Childs is Forsyth's Development Director.

She made banners for Herring’s win last year, but now, she plans to have them up every year.

"Decided to put them back up every year in February because he’s a part of Black history," Childs said.

Herring also hosts football camps for kids in Forsyth. Youth football coach Timothy Stokes said Herring has become an inspiration on and off the field.

"Mostly for the kids by going to school and like I said he’s an inspiration man. He went to UGA. Now, these kids got goals to go to college and pursue their dreams," Stokes said.

When it comes to Super Bowl Sunday, people in Forsyth know where they’re going to be.

“I’m going to be in front of my TV screaming for Malik Herring and the Kansas City Chiefs. Go Chiefs," Childs cheered.

You don't have to wait until Sunday to show your support for Herring.

People in Forsyth are having a redout tomorrow. You can wear red or your Kansas City Chiefs gear to show support for the hometown hero.
