Man dead after shooting, crash in East Macon over the weekend

Investigators are working to determine what led up to the incident on Jeffersonville Road.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says a 25-year-old man is dead after a crash near the intersection of Roseview Street and Jeffersonville Road.

According to Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, witnesses reported shooting between two cars before 5:00 p.m.. One car crashed and overturned.

The driver of the overturned car was found dead inside. Miley identified him as Cortavius Ates. He was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m. on the scene.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Ates was shot several times.

Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the incident.
