Community Foundation of Central Georgia entering into Houston County

The public charity organization's goal is to provide an accessible and efficient avenue for folks to invest back into their community. Here's how they do that

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Community Foundation of Central Georgia is expanding to Houston County.

It's a public charity organization, and they work to provide an accessible and efficient avenue for folks to invest back into their community through donations.

Folks, like Jim Taylor, who love to invest time to philanthropic work around Warner Robins, such as Habitat For Humanity.

"It is our obligation to give back to the community," he said.

Taylor said he's noticed many people in his county who like to donate to charity.

"I like to call them 'compassionate capitalists,'" he said. "They're ones who, yes, they make a lot of money off the community, but they give back an awful lot to the community. That's what Warner Robins Supply did."

Taylor is a retired Air Force veteran. His family used to own Warner Robins Building Supply Company before it sold a few years ago.

He said the foundation has invested in Houston County for years, helping fund projects like the Wellston Park Trail.

Taylor helped raise thousands of dollars for that project through Wellston Trees & Greens.

Their partnership with the Community Foundation of Central Georgia helped establish the first off-leash dog park in Warner Robins.

The foundation has also helped fund other non-profits and organizations in need of donations, like Genesis Joy House and the Houston County Volunteer Medical Clinic.

"Without funding any of those organizations, they're not near as impactful as when they have funding," he said.

"I think the most important thing to know about the Community Foundation of Central Georgia is that it is by Houston County and for Houston County," Wood said.

That's the foundation's mission: to get non-profits in touch with people who want to invest in the cause.

"It's another economic development tool that can be used as far as to recycle dollars back into your community," Taylor said.

You can join the Community Foundation's launch celebrations, including a ribbon-cutting, of their Houston County program on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Houston County Commission Chambers on Carl Vinson Parkway.
