Mother shares reaction to man charged with son's murder being released

Devin Fincher was shot and killed in October 2023. On Monday, the man charged with his murder was released on bond.

MACON, Ga. — Devin Fincher was shot and killed at a Sunoco gas station in Macon.

His mother, Amy Fincher, was grateful for an indictment, but that soon turned to disappointment when she found out the man charged with her son’s murder was released on bond.

"He took my son’s life, but he just goes on living," Amy said.

Amy was disappointed to hear about Joseph Joyner’s release. Joyner was indicted for Devin's murder in December 2023. Nearly a month later, an $82,500 bond was posted for his release.

“I felt like I was getting some sort of peace. The peace I had been looking for, and then a month later it’s just like bam. I relive it all over again," Amy said.

Amy said she’s going through a lot of emotions, but anger washed over her because she feels like her son’s case isn’t being taken seriously.

"It don’t matter if you murder somebody. You get a bond; you can get out so what you know? That’s the way I feel like they handled it," Amy said.

Amy said she hasn’t heard from the District Attorney's Office about Joyner's release.

“I haven’t heard nothing. They have not told me he was out. They have not told me anything about the trial. Everything I found out; I find it on my own through looking through court records," Amy said.

With the lack of communication in Joyner's release and bond hearing, Amy said she struggling to grieve her son when he needs justice.

"I sit up and I read and I try to educate myself to see who I need to talk to, what I can do, who I can call. When I should be trying to remember the good times that I had with my kid, but I can't even do that right now," Amy said.

She hopes it will be different in the future. She said court documents said the trial should happen 2025. Until then, she asks Bibb County for one thing.

"Hold everybody that was involved responsible for their actions and I hope they never do any other family like this because this has been it’s just heartbreaking," Amy said.

We've reached out to the DA's office. They said their office did oppose bond for Joyner.
