Chief Swicord: 18-year-old Milledgeville murder suspect found hiding under pile of clothes

Two others were arrested last month on felony murder charges. Several others were arrested on Thursday night

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — An 18-year-old wanted in the shooting death of a 16-year-old was found hiding under a pile of clothes in an apartment in Milledgeville, according to Chief Dray Swicord.

16-year-old Desmond Rivers was shot and killed on Anthony Way in Milledgeville on Nov. 25.

Derquavious Kier, Dillon Chapman and a 14-year-old juvenile were all wanted on felony murder charges. Chapman was taken into custody on Nov. 26, and the 14-year-old turned himself in on Nov. 27.

Kier had been on the run for nearly a month before being caught Thursday night at the Riverbend Apartments in Milledgeville.

He faces the following charges: felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm.

The Milledgeville Police Department’s Special Response Team and a deputy marshal with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Taskforce went into the apartment. They found Kier hiding in a closet under a pile of bed sheets.

Milledgeville police also arrested 22-year-old Shymecia Lewis and charged her with harboring a fugitive along with several other outstanding warrants.

Three others inside the apartment were arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive, and warrants are pending on four other people after further investigation.

“We are grateful for the assistance we have received from the citizens in our community concerning not only the initial murder investigation but also the numerous tips and leads on Kier, which ultimately led to his arrest,” Swicord said in the release. “The men and women of the Milledgeville Police Department will continue to work tirelessly to seek out and arrest those individuals who are committing unlawful acts and preying upon our community."
